Taking a quick break from my NaNoWriMo word-crush assault to bring you a handful of movie trailers. I decided I would try to share some more family friendly movies. It is Thanksgiving after all! I thought this would be a pain, considering I just shared 6 animated features last week (XVIII | Trailer Tuesday | XVIII). As luck would have it, though, there were a few more family-orientated trailers popping up. Usually I post six trailers, but tonight will only be three. Enjoy!

Muppets: Most Wanted (3/21/2014):

It looks like we have some more Muppet action coming soon! I really enjoyed the reboot, and was a little saddened to find Jason Segel didn’t write (and possibly not appear in) this sequel. It does have the same director, though. And like most every Muppet movie, it has it’s fair share of celebrities and guest star cameos. I’ve always like that aspect of The Muppets. I suppose Segel’s goal was to revamp the franchise and breath some new life into it. Missions accomplished, I say. Muppets Most Wanted looks like it will be more of the same you have come to expect from the franchise, and that’s a good thing. Will I see this in the theaters? It’s very possible.

It’s finally arrived! The 10 Things of Thankful’s 25th AnnWEEKiversary (Weekaversary?)!

Whatever, it’s the 25th weekend of the Blog Hop that forces encourages you to look past all the boring, problematic, traumatic, “enter whatever negative descriptor desired” bullshit that most of us encounter on a daily bases and to appreciate the finer moments you’ve experienced throughout the week.

The Bounty!
This evening, the Ladyfolk and I had an exceptionally poetic night out. We attended a local event called Literary Death Match, which has been hosted in the Twin Cities for 10 years, including tonight’s performance. The first nine took place in Minneapolis, while tonight the show was hosted in St. Paul, for the first time, at Amsterdam Bar and Hall. There’s a bunch to highlight about the night (and to personally critique), but I will leave a majority of that for a specific post.

This week I decided to gather together a handful of movie trailers for animated films coming out soon. I believe all of them are due to release in 2014, pending schedule changes. I contemplated saving this list for next week, as it’s a holiday week. They would make for a great “family” theme, but I am hoping for some sweet trailers to be released with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, hitting theaters this Friday, which I can then share next Tuesday. I feel I really missed the mark by not having a horror theme for the week of Halloween too, but there is always next year, right?

The Nut Job (1/7/2014):

As you all know, I love me some squirrels. When they are featuring the voice talents of actors like Will Arnett and Liam Neeson? Even better. Part of me feels (from the trailer) that this animated film is of the lower budget, more independent end of the spectrum. I could be wrong, though. The animation doesn’t look to be poor quality, but I guess I worry about just how predictable it may be, and/or the funnier bits used up in the trailer. That being said, however, I am definitely not opposed to seeing squirrels commit a nut heist in the theaters! I mean come on, let’s be serious now...

I’m sure after my XXII | 10 Things of Thankful | XXII and XXIII | 10 Things of Thankful | XXIII entries that most people are sick of hearing all about my recent hit-and-run incident (it hasn’t been the first time involved in one), but really, it’s been about the biggest event over the past two weeks. Hopefully people don’t skip my (long-winded) story version of the event when I finally get that up post-November! Yesterday I truly did plan on only using half of the list to highlight the wrap-up segment for the event and move on to other things for the last half, but shit happens. So today I will be going over the past two weeks in broader strokes, covering some other news and events that have been an impact of a Thankful nature, and wrap up this weekend’s TToT Triple Threat.

Saturday, November 16, 2013

So yesterday, or really one minute to today, I expressed some Thankfulness involving a recent hit-and-run that my car was involved in. It was an interesting weekend, followed by an interesting week. Some of today’s post will be follow-up, and some will be unrelated to that incident. I want to get this in before I continue with some NaNoWriMo writing and Game Night tonight with some of Kate’s friends.

It’s much much later than I thought it was and I have thirty minutes to get this post in if I plan to catch up to the rest of the TToT group. I’ve been AWOL a few weeks as I concentrate on NaNoWriMo, but I have fallen very behind on my 50k word count. Almost 20k behind actually. Thankfully I was able to get in some writing early this morning after a ten day dry spell. Enough of a dry spell that I thought it would be best to just throw in the towel. It seems many from our original NaNo 2012 group are feeling the same. That this year just doesn’t have the same heart as the last.

I will attempt to slip in a few, quick blurbs of things I am thankful for. It may be hard to accurately recall when some things took place over the last 2 weeks, so this isn’t going to be in chronological order. Just random remembrances.

Oldboy (11/27/2013):

It's been about ten years since the original Oldboy, and possibly only six years since I experienced it. Only one viewing, but many of the scenes have stuck with me over time. When I saw they were remaking (or Americanizing it) the movie, I felt the sudden, reactive surge of disappointment. Some I know are angry. When you love an original version of something, it's easy to become emotional when it gets reworked. There is much potential for "ruining" a piece of work you've enjoyed and/or fallen in love with. I'm not too thrilled about this remake, just the same as I wasn't with the remake of Infernal Affairs (or rather, The Departed as it was called once Americanized). Those who have never seen the originals of remakes (especially the foreign ones) are generally indifferent. It's easy to understand why. I'm usually passionate about these types of remakes, but I will undoubtedly give this movie a shot, much as I did with The Departed. In the theater, though? To be determined... I'm interested in seeing how they handle some of the subject matter.

-NaNoWriMo Hiatus-
Main logo.
June was the last time I posted an Interlude, and this seems as fitting a place as any. Over the course of a year, I’ve written many blog posts and a smidgen of fiction. I have done more writing this past year than I have in the twelve previous. This was all thanks, in part, to NaNoWriMo — a nationally sponsored event that encourages writers, old and new, to take up arms together and face the challenge of writing 50k words (novel) over the course of 30 days every November. I gave thanks to this challenge many times, especially throughout my earlier posts, and I will forever be grateful.

Well, it's November and NaNoWriMo is upon us (me?) again...

Three layers of awesome sugary death. I'm honestly shocked I am still functioning...
As promised, somewhere in my XXI | 10 Things of Thankful | XXI post this weekend, here is a picture of the cake that got not one, not two, but three well deserved slots on my list! I’m telling you it was amazing!

And for Dyanne and others who maybe have asked, but I conveniently forgot…

Free Birds (11/1/2013):

Starting out with the first of three movies opening this week is Free Birds. Just in time for Thanksgiving is this animated feature about a turkey recruited to save the future of all turkey-kind! It looks pretty funny, especially those yellow suited men, which remind me of minions from Despicable Me. Maybe it’s the color? That laughing? I’m not sure. I haven’t seen this trailer much, though I only watch TV on Mondays, but it was released a few months ago. I had completely forgotten about it, and saw it was slotted to come out this week. Thought I best share. Hopefully a good handful of families will get out and see this for the upcoming holiday season. This makes me ponder if I missed some Halloween themed animated movies...

I was dead set on getting in an even earlier post this weekend, but plans changed. I was still dead set on writing a post, knowing I could still hop/visit throughout the week, though it isn’t exactly the ideal time frame, but then plans changed again. I suddenly had a reversal as I sat down to begin writing 30 min ago. Now with 45 min to go until midnight strikes in my region, I’ve decided to try to crush something out — quick like — and get some visiting in during the first part of this week.

My list of Thankful. Short and Sweet. Famous last words...

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Back a few weeks ago (XVII | 10 Things of Thankful | XVII) I mentioned being inspired by a picture a friend drew for me. It came at a moment when I was on the fence about continuing the blogging or going on a hiatus. Even this coming NaNoWriMo seemed threatened. I wanted to share the picture, though if you are friends on FB you’ve already seen it I’m sure. I love it, and I just need to look at it if ever feeling negative about my writing (or lack thereof). I miss him and his wife. They moved to England years ago, but hopefully someday there will be a reunion.

Dear Mr. Watterson (11/15/13):

Not much to say except that I, like many, am one who fell in love with the Calvin & Hobbes comic strip when growing up. It was one of my favorites, alongside Garfield and The Far Side. I generally would save them for last to end my reading session on a good note, because even though I disliked a handful of comic strips, I couldn’t help but read them. I don’t even know why. This will probably have a limited release, and if I happen to hear of one near me I’d love to go see it.

The 25th TToT is fast approaching. Sure it’s a month out. Sure it lands during NaNoWriMo in November. Sure I will be bogged down by that, holidays, and family engagements, but I am curious what the host (and co-hosts) have brewing for that milestone and if they haven’t thought it over, they better start now!

This weekend should be a slow one, so I’m hoping to be able to actually participate in the hop. Not that past “lazy” weekends have been busy, but I’ve been preoccupied. And honestly, it’s been a struggle to just write a post. This means November will either be really encouraging and prove rejuvenating for my writing, or it will be incredibly disheartening and frustrating. I can’t wait to find out…

True Detective (Jan 2014):

This is an HBO Original series. I caught the trailer a few weeks back and thought it looked really good. The trailer itself is really well done, and the two main actors are sure to be solid in in their performance. While I’m a bigger fan of Woody Harrelson, the pairing of these two should offer some great moments. Having just wrapped up Breaking Bad, this is one I’d love to add to my viewing line-up! The trailer cites January 2014, so this is still a few months out, but I’m sure it will be worth the wait. With the possible taglines of “Darkness Becomes You” and/or “The World Needs Bad Men”, how could it not be?

I’m not sure how I forgot to mention, but two weeks ago was hell of a work week. It kind of knocked me on my ass and helped facilitate my absence from the Blogosphere. The property had two walkthroughs. One from a potential owner — wanting to go into each unit — and another with one of the higher-ups of the company. This called for extra time being spent cleaning the buildings, property, and my own apartment.

My building is generally always good to go, but the other… well, the other has a section I call the “Dead Zone”. Just to myself. It kind of creeps me out, to be honest. Maybe I will explain why in a future post. It’s silly, and slightly embarrassing, but I have an overactive imagination. Anyhow, it just never seems to look cleaned and it bugs the hell out of me. Needless to say, the entire ordeal did a number on me — mainly the cleaning chemicals.

I took a week off as I’ve struggled with thoughts of a hiatus. One with an undetermined time frame. Originally, I thought a few weeks. Come back, start fresh, catch up if able, but not worrying if unable to — much. This is me we’re talking about here…

Then I realized NaNoWriMo is fast approaching, and the likelihood of me being able to blog and write 50k words in a month seems pretty impossible. If I was going to take any sort of hiatus, that would be the optimal time to do so.

Last Sunday I mentioned a cooking experiment involving a pizza. I thought I would share some photos from the experience.

This is how the pizza should look, only different. They don't have a pic of the exact pizza, but it was stuffed like such!

The Art of the Steal (9/11/2013):

This movie was already released, but I hadn’t come across the trailer until last week. It looks to be a Canadian release, so I’m uncertain just when it may show in theaters in the States. I like a good majority of the cast, especially Kurt Russell. Something about that Jay Baruchel guy weirds me out, though. He is so scrawny. That aside, however, I think this looks like a good movie. Nothing really original, but may prove to be entertaining. I’d even chance a theater viewing.

This should get in a bit earlier than my previous forays into the TToT blog hop, but it is honestly the one closest to the point of never being published. It’s just been that emotional of a week, and as I reached the end of the week my enthusiasm for writing in the blog hop had dwindled substantially.

The week started off with my grandmother going into the clinic, for what was believed backup issues, which then lead to her having to be admitted into the hospital. There, they found she was exhibiting an irregular heartbeat and had to have some extensive testing done. I didn’t find out about what was going on, though, until Thursday. She hadn’t called me, though I know she brought various phone numbers with her, my father hadn’t called me, and all my calls to her were met with endless ringing (she is old-school, so no voicemail for her…). Finally, Thursday I was able to reach my father who updated me as to what exactly happened and that evening when she got home she called to talk. She tries not to call my cell phone being I get in trouble for personal use time and have been charged by my company for minutes, but it would have been nice to have been given a heads up. A voicemail, if nothing else…

This past weekend there was the wedding I spoke about in my last TToT and thought I would share some of the photos. The first two are courtesy of Dese’Rae L. Stage Photography. You can visit her site by clicking on the images. The rest are random pictures and some meme-style additions I had hoped to print out to doctor the back of their wedding card with, but ran out of time.
I am also sharing the piece I did add to their wedding card. The one that took me hours to complete. This is likely because I am Slowplay and not the best at art programs. No, I didn't draw the piece. I just found the picture and doctored it up.

Not a whole lot to say about this week’s trailers. We have a simple mix of drama, comedy, and animated sequels. There may be some randomness thrown in, as well.

Anyhow, lets get to it…

Sunday, September 22, 2013

It was a busy weekend, or at least a busy Saturday. Some friends I made during NaNoWriMo got married, so the ladyfolk and I spent the day and evening celebrating with them. I probably should have drank, given the circumstances. You only (hopefully) get married once, right? I will make up for it another night. It was a beautiful wedding on a beautiful day. Perhaps I can get permission to use some pictures on Wednesday!

Despite a friend bringing a companion who didn’t know the meaning of not giving away movie spoilers, it was a fantastic experience and there was plenty to be Thankful for…

Cadence and I doing what we do best: pretending to write! Okay, maybe that's just me...
There were a handful of pictures I would like to share, but I prefer asking permission before placing up random pictures of people. While it is generally okay via Facebook, a blog I feel is a bit different considering it’s a lot less private. Cadence (who I met during NaNoWriMo last Nov) was online and sweet enough to allow me to use one of her and I.

Tonight’s movie trailers are a bit on the underwhelming side for me. I may have interest in one or two of the selections, but even then I may wait to watch them via RB/NF. Some may be a bit obscure, and I’d like to think it never hurts to have a little added exposure. Perhaps there will be a hidden gem for someone who may have otherwise never known/heard of the movie before. Sometimes I even find them myself!

The videogame trailers, however, spark a lot more interest. Especially Call of Duty, as I’ve been following along with the franchise for years now.

Sunday, September 15, 2013

Okay, two hours before Sunday ends, and I’m just getting started on my list and I’ve only been able to visit two or three blogs (and catching up on past TToTs on top of it). Where did I go wrong? I used to be so up and prompt with all this Thankful stuff!* I haven’t really been online much all week. I have been productive and figuring out some shakiness on the workfront, but I hope it’s just a minor hiccup.

Lots of girlfriend time, though, and I’m certain that is what most of my list will revolve around. So let’s get to what I’m thankful for this week…

I swear they look just like my grandparents!
This is an image I found online while looking for various picture options for an anniversary card. The card I bought for my grandparent’s 25th Anniversary was pretty blank. Too blank. But I couldn’t focus enough to derive words befitting enough to dress the card up. When I came across this picture it was perfect, so I printed it out and added it. This project was all done last minute on a whim, but I think it added so much humor to the gift. I wasn’t around when they finally opened it, unfortunately, but was told they liked it alot.

We have hit the 10 week mark for Trailer Tuesday! While I contemplated doing something special for this entry, I decided it best to not stress over it and stick to keeping it simple. Perhaps when I hit entry 25? We will see.

The holiday season is approaching and we will likely see new trailers being released for the big budget pictures that studios are placing their bets on. Ender’s Game, The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to name a few. I will be keeping an eye out (some already have new trailers out) and try to compile them as we get closer to their release dates. For now, I will share some trailers that I have been waiting to highlight, slipped by, and/or recently discovered.

Monday, September 9, 2013

This week (technically last week) ended up being a complete turnaround compared to the last few, leaving me with a lot to be Thankful for. For some reason, though, I felt almost completely unmotivated to participate in the blog hop this weekend. My fatigue picked up again, and it reminded me I have to call back the clinic for a follow-up appointment. Definitely not looking forward to attempting another sleep study, but perhaps I can get my hands on one of those devices you can bring home to gather data on.

As I fought through the re-surging, constant drowsiness there was a wealth of positive impacts on my life. Through brief (yet also constant) bouts of insecurities spanning various facets of my life, I feel I made some decisions that did well to counter those darker wisps of imagined unworthiness. It’s sometimes hard for me to overcome those doubts, but in time I’ve found with patience and practice I can eventually break through the fog.

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

It seems that the holiday weekend made my days get a bit off kilter. I thought it was Monday today, and I wasn’t looking to do anything but catch up on some fellow blogger action. This weekend got very busy, but it was a lot of fun spending time with family and friends. Surprisingly, though, there was no grilling. Considering I sometimes post one minute to midnight (though I’m sure it’s seconds to midnight once in awhile), it’s likely no one would have ever known just how close I came to missing this week’s Trailer Tuesday post! But let me tell you… it was close…

Last week, during The Butler, I saw a handful of trailers I’d never seen, so I’m going to share them today. Some are even associated with that Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) I mentioned. While I get back to replying to comments on earlier posts and blog hop around, take a moment and check out these following previews and let me know what you think.

Saturday, August 31, 2013

So, I’m just going to throw it out there: I’m incredibly sick of the constant emotional roller coaster life seems to be taking me on over these last few weeks. I think I’ve handled them as well as I can — rolling with the punches — but fear I may be compromising myself and my self-respect in the process of protecting some illusionary status quo. Sometimes it’s really hard to know what the best decisions for yourself are. There are so many factors that compete to be given priority that the swirling thoughts bombarding you are akin to a madhouse.

This weeks remembrances of the kind, light, and fluffy side of things is going to prove most challenging. This is likely caused by the recency of various events/affairs. I’d much rather just shut myself away for the weekend and wake Monday morning — which, unlike for most, if generally my favorite day of the week — and see what the new week has in store for me. This attitude shuts me down from doing most things I’ve had planned for the week (mainly concerning writing of reviews and reading/commenting on blog posts). I’ll be attempting to keep this short and sweet* beyond this point.
