Just making a quick post today—before replying to comments and blog hopping even—to highlight a contest I just came across on a friend’s blog.

The name of the contest is WRiTE CLUB 2013 and it revolves around people entering writing samples/excerpts of up to 500 words. 32 of those submissions are chosen to continue on to the next round. From there, two of the 32 entries are randomly selected to go head-to-head and are voted on to determine which will progress to the next round. Check out the link, as it offers a more in depth explanation and has rule/guideline listings.

It sounds like a lot of fun, but unfortunately today is the final day for submitting. I just came across it this morning before passing out and now that I am semi-coherent I wanted to make sure to post about it. That way if people happen across this, and they have a writing sample/excerpt, they can still submit.

Really wish I had learned about WRiTE CLUB earlier this month! Good luck if submitting!

Have you submitted to WRiTE CLUB?

Another work week comes to a close, and another weekend’s shining beacon of hope, light, and shenanigans envelopes us. Unless you work weekends, well then... sucks to be you ;-)

Crap, I work most weekends! I can still partake in shenanigans, though, and hopefully you can too. Last weekend was a busy one, and this one shaped up to potentially be as well. I should be getting ready for said events as I type, so I’m going to cut right to the chase.

There were plenty of things for me to be thankful about this week and I’d like to highlight a handful of them. Unfortunately none of them involve the word “thwack” this time. I know, Sad Panda.

Every generation has it’s share of tragedies, it’s share of triumphs.

Every generation it’s tyrants, it’s heroes.

Every generation certain words and catchphrases grip the world, encompassing the very essence of life as we know it. Stripping away all we believe we know and hold dear, shaking us to the very core of our foundation.

It’s been a pretty rough week. Crooks is having some issues, and I maybe perhaps sort of lost track of some bills. I haven’t done any [fiction] writing, and barely got any reading and commenting done. Today has been oddly brutal as I’ve not done anything due to being so tired. I really should check in with a doctor to make sure I don’t have anything funky going down. Doesn’t matter how much I sleep and/or workout, I’m always so fatigued.

So now that it’s an hour to midnight and I’m awake, I thought I best try to knock this out. Highlight some of the positive counteracting the negative...

It’s Tuesday and the music themed blog hop is still underway, but I’m sailing under the radar for another week. I’m not very familiar with much music from before my time. Having to pretend I existed during those periods would actually be a lot of fun — sure I could make stuff up — but I will just make myself believe that the 70's weren’t as awesome as everyone living them wants you to think.

Therefore it was destined that I would be born seven days into the 80's; the same amount of days it took “God” to create the world*. This includes his much needed day of rest. So while he was kicking back, sipping a martini — shaken, not stirred — I came into the world kicking and screaming.

Last night I gamed with my brother, which I hope to alternate every other Friday, and it was a lot of fun. I sucked royally this time around, though. The cards just weren’t in my favor. Being we drove together it really dragged on being out of the tournament so early and waiting for my brother. Two hours later he would walk away with 4th place and one booster pack worth 3-4$. Uncertain the prize compensates for the time spent.

Today was supposed to be a craze-filled day. There were family gatherings, book club meetups, and friends wanting to spend time together, but I ended up doing none of them. My car isn’t in the best condition so long distant travels (read: 45min+) aren’t likely the safest for me to partake in. I just tote around in my neck of the woods. Along with my brother — who I usually ride with to said events — being unable to make it, this nixed the family gathering from the equation.

Distance also accounts for the book club meeting/movie watching. There are those who attend that would give me a ride, but I seriously hate asking all the time. I just watch the going ons of the Facebook event page from afar and live vicariously through the interactions.

Then the friend asking to hang out had some complications come up and so plans were postponed.

This leads to one potentially mundane weekend, but does that mean I’m not thankful?

-You’ve Got Mail-

A month ago I attended a Birthday BBQ. It was a lot of fun, but one of the best moments of the night (for me) was when some of the guests found out who I was.

“You’re Jak?!”

When someone exclaims that I’m torn on how to answer, because the reasoning behind it could be negative just as much as it could be positive. I’d only met some of them one other time roughly a year ago during holiday events. Did I offend someone? I swear a lot and speak “off the cuff”... occasionally. Were these people “Friends” or “Foes”? It’s important to know these things.

So it’s Tuesday and there is supposedly a music blog hop (Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday) that people participate in. I love my music and would love to give it a go, but it seems there is a specific theme/guideline they are using.

Basically they are working their way through the various decades — currently entrapped in the 60’s (or earlier) — where you make a “mixed tape” to someone as though you were living within that decade and have no knowledge of music beyond that time period. It’s a great, fun concept and I like it alot, but feel a bit ill-prepared. I should have researched a tad bit earlier. Most know my knack for procrastination, though, so this likely doesn’t come as a surprise.

I’m going to go off the reservation a bit. It’s not that I dislike rules or lack understanding of their place; I just hate following them. No, but really, I just wasn’t prepared, so this week I will blaze my own trail — so to speak — while retaining the spirit of involving music in some fashion.

But first a completely unrelated story.

After the A to Z 2013 and Blog Every Day In May 2013 Challenges I decided to take some time off. It’s been a week and in that time I’ve focused on getting back into an exercise routine, caught up on some work, contemplated my fiction (though not writing any), and debated where to touch base with my next — this — entry. Also, I’ve been catching up with fellow bloggers and have only completed the task with 2 ½ people out of 12+ I need to learn how to stay on track and read faster...

If you’ve been following along for a while you’ll likely be familiar with the fact that I sometimes have random bouts of emotional bursts. I won’t point out the specific posts this time around, but if wanting to you can inquire and I will share the needed links. A similar outburst occurred last weekend while listening to music; more specifically watching a music video. I meant to write this post right away, in the moment of it all, but I’m a master procrastinator.
